On this Labor Day, let’s talk turkey. While the holiday has come to signify the “end of summer,” it’s origination was “an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers.” (Department of Labor)

Let’s look at how we’re doing on that social and economic achievement.

Today is Women’s Equality Day. A day that was chosen to celebrate the passing of the 19th Amendment, or Women’s Right to Vote. This is also The Pledgettes’ anniversary (a very intentional choice).

Women’s Equality is the best book still being written. We have had some great chapters, some big drama, some imperfections and mistakes, and a whole slew of characters. However, we need to acknowledge that women are not yet equal. The book is not yet done. And you are a character in this book. Whether it’s at your family level or a global level.

In June, The Pledgettes hosting a Money Talks panel about Travel. Sarah Moe joined the panel to share her housesitting experience. Sarah leveraged housesitting to reducing her largest expense (housing) while traveling around the world. Here are five tips as you start housesitting.

There was so good chatter in our community today about the Child Tax Credits that are hitting bank accounts. Thankfully, we have some smart professionals in our community willing to share their knowledge. Amy Iannone of Pro Books and Taxes shared some information and helpful resources.

Sales has always been a mindset block for me. With the help of Jaime, I’m reframing my sales mindset. In her course, I deeply enjoyed digging into the money blocks section.

According to a 2018 survey conducted by staffing giant Robert Half, Inc, only 55% of job seekers negotiated their salaries, a contrast to the 70% of hiring managers who expected to entertain some back-and-forth.

What’s more, there’s a larger uncomfortable reality within that statistic. That same study revealed that only 45% of women (compared to 68% of men) played the bargaining game.

There is a lot going on that has me thinking about money and wealth from different perspectives this week. Here’s a snapshot of my reflections.

I only know debt. I grew up with it, so when I started accumulating debt in my teens it seemed almost like a rite of passage. I’ve given far more thought to it as an adult than I ever did then. It was that normal.

What I now know is debt is normal because we’ve normalized it. Debt doesn’t have to be a way of life or any kind of comfort zone. Like most things that weigh us down, it took having my own “enough is enough” moment to come up for air and find my own way out of it.
