I was lucky to connect with McCall Fen last year. We had a great conversation about the important qualities of a Financial Advisor (they might not be what you think) and what she sees as the future of the financial service industries.

About once/quarter, I collaborate with General Assembly to facilitate a money panel. On July 15, we are bringing together some great panelists to talk about Mental Health and Money.

Sales has always been a mindset block for me. With the help of Jaime, I’m reframing my sales mindset. In her course, I deeply enjoyed digging into the money blocks section.

According to a 2018 survey conducted by staffing giant Robert Half, Inc, only 55% of job seekers negotiated their salaries, a contrast to the 70% of hiring managers who expected to entertain some back-and-forth.

What’s more, there’s a larger uncomfortable reality within that statistic. That same study revealed that only 45% of women (compared to 68% of men) played the bargaining game.

There is a lot going on that has me thinking about money and wealth from different perspectives this week. Here’s a snapshot of my reflections.

I only know debt. I grew up with it, so when I started accumulating debt in my teens it seemed almost like a rite of passage. I’ve given far more thought to it as an adult than I ever did then. It was that normal.

What I now know is debt is normal because we’ve normalized it. Debt doesn’t have to be a way of life or any kind of comfort zone. Like most things that weigh us down, it took having my own “enough is enough” moment to come up for air and find my own way out of it.
