Money Beliefs from Childhood and What They Look Like Today!
In this week's Pledgettes event, we learned more about our Money Beliefs, our Why's for wanting money, and making our Money Belief that supports where we are and where we want to go.
Here are some money beliefs I have learned along the way.
There will always be enough. We’ll make it work.
I like this one. Everything always work out. We’ll find a way. A version of this will (hopefull) always stick with me. It’s realistic and optimistic. it requires action on my end. And I believe it to be true because it has been true for me. I have found a way or a version to have a good life.
Making money is hard.
The spirit is there to instill hardwork. But I don’t want this to be true and I know this isn’t always true. I don’t think I’ll get to the opposite (making money is easy) but I can get to. I can earn money doing things that come to me with ease. Or I like taking on work projects that leverage my strengths.
Experiences > Things
I am going to spend money. I feel aligned when I am spending more money on experiences over things. I’ll remember that random cave tour on a road trip more than a fancy water bottle I drank from on the road trip. All spending is about progress, not perfection. Of course, I’ll need to buy things. I just feel better when I spend more on experiences over things.
Delayed gratification. A little sacrifice today can save you from a big sacrifice later.
I prefer the word “choice” over “sacrifice.” This one I really like. I can make small choices today that allow me to make big choices in the future. I probably won’t miss eating lunch out often if that means I can splurge on a gift for my husband or family.
The way to get rich is to leverage other people’s time and money.
This one I’m still working through. Since we’re seeing billionaires get there by extracting people’s value and time with low wages, this one can make me cringe a bit. But when I see it as hiring specialists (like cleaning people or independent contractors) to free up my time and energy to work more or spend quality time with family and friends, I like it.
